Preparing for study: Academic culture, language and assessment introduces the key concepts of the course including academic conventions and expectations, academic communities and self-evaluation.
Completing the Listening course will help students to prepare for listening in a range of situations. They will learn to identify different features of listening that will help to improve their listening skills. Academic practices such as notetaking, receiving guidance and feedback, and positive interaction with other students and academics will be developed via the listening activities and strategies on this course.
The Speaking course will enable students to understand the purpose and value of academic debate and discussion. Completing the course will help students to improve their abilities and confidence in presentation skills, group work, academic meetings and classroom discussions.
Completing the Reading course will help students to identify different features of written texts in order to get the most from their studies of these texts. They will improve their knowledge of primary and secondary sources, citation and referencing.
